What does not work
Three story-scheduling limits to know
Instagram's API does not support story stickers, so polls, questions, quizzes, links and music cannot be added to a Story published by any scheduler. Music tagging through the API is limited to original audio. And in PostNext specifically, Stories are image-only for now: video Stories are not supported yet.

Choose Meta Business Suite or a scheduler
Meta Business Suite is free and covers Instagram and Facebook. A scheduler like PostNext is the better fit when Stories sit in a calendar with other networks. Either way, a Business or Creator account keeps every option open.

Upload the image
Add the photo you want as the Story. Skip stickers, polls, links and music: none of them can be added through the API, so plan to add them in the Instagram app if the Story needs them.

Pick the date and time
Choose when the Story goes live and check the time zone before you confirm. PostNext lets you pick the time zone for each post, so a Story aimed at another market lands when that audience is awake.

Check the first one goes out
Open Instagram at the scheduled time and confirm the Story is live. If a publish fails, PostNext shows the reason in the Publish view and emails you, so you can post it by hand while it still matters.

Can you schedule Instagram Stories?
Yes, but not in the Instagram app, which schedules photos, carousels and Reels only. Meta Business Suite schedules Stories for free, and schedulers that use Instagram's API can publish them too. PostNext schedules image Stories.
How do I schedule a story natively?
In Meta Business Suite, open Content, choose Stories, create the Story, upload the photo or video, choose Schedule for later and pick the time. It works on a computer and in the Meta Business Suite app, and it can publish to Instagram, Facebook or both.
Why can I not schedule music in my Instagram Story?
Instagram's API only tags original audio, so no scheduler can add a track from Instagram's music library. Schedule the Story without music, or post that Story from the Instagram app.
Can I schedule polls or questions in Instagram Stories?
Not through a scheduler. Instagram's content publishing API does not support story stickers, so polls, questions, quizzes and link stickers have to be added in the Instagram app.
How far in advance can I schedule a story?
Meta does not document a limit for Stories in Meta Business Suite. PostNext has no scheduling horizon: it keeps the Story and publishes it at the chosen time, weeks or months ahead.
Do scheduled Stories hurt reach?
No. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a March 2025 Q&A that using scheduled posts does not affect reach one way or the other. What matters is the content and when your followers are online.

What is the difference between Meta Business Suite and a third-party scheduler?

Can I schedule several stories in a sequence?
Yes. Schedule each Story a few minutes apart and they go out in order, so your audience sees the sequence as if you had posted it live.
Can I schedule story stickers and tags?
No. Instagram's API does not support story stickers, so location, mention, link, poll, question and music stickers cannot be added by any scheduler. Add them in the Instagram app when the Story needs them.
Why is my scheduled story missing its stickers?
Because stickers cannot be published through Instagram's API. If a scheduler's preview shows a sticker, it will not appear on Instagram. Plan stickered Stories as in-app posts.
Can I schedule Instagram Stories from my phone?
Yes, with the Meta Business Suite app. PostNext has no mobile app yet; it runs in the browser.
How do I edit a scheduled Instagram Story?
In Meta Business Suite, open the Planner or your scheduled content and edit or reschedule it before it goes live. In PostNext, open the post from the calendar, change it, or drag it to another day.
Can I cancel a scheduled story?
Yes. Delete it from the scheduled list in Meta Business Suite, or from the calendar in PostNext, before the publish time and it will not go out.
How do I know the scheduled story published?
Check your Stories at the scheduled time. PostNext also shows each post's status in the Publish view and emails you when a publish fails, with the reason.
What is the best tool to schedule Instagram Stories?
