Three ways to schedule

How to Schedule a Post on Instagram

In the Instagram app, tap More options on the last screen before sharing, turn on Schedule this post and pick a date up to 30 days ahead. It works for any public account and costs nothing. For Stories, use Meta Business Suite; to schedule from a computer or to several networks at once, use Meta Business Suite or a scheduler.

Three ways to schedule

The app, Meta Business Suite, or a scheduler

The Instagram app schedules photos, carousels and Reels for any public account, up to 30 days ahead and up to 25 posts a day, according to Instagram's Help Center in September 2026. Plenty of guides still say 75 days and professional accounts only: those were the rules when the feature launched in November 2022. Meta Business Suite adds scheduling from a computer and Stories for accounts you manage there. Third-party schedulers publish through Instagram's API, which only works with Business and Creator accounts, and put Instagram in one calendar with your other networks.

Instagram app: any public account, photos, carousels and Reels, 30 days ahead

Meta Business Suite: computer and phone, adds Stories and Facebook cross-posting

Third-party scheduler: Business or Creator account, every network in one calendar

What can be scheduled

What Instagram will and will not hold for you

The app's scheduler covers the three feed formats: single photos, carousels and Reels. Stories are not part of it; Meta Business Suite handles those. Instagram also lists features that do not work with scheduled content at the moment: product tags, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers. Instagram Live has its own separate scheduler, from one hour to 90 days ahead, for public accounts with at least 1,000 followers.

Photos, carousels and Reels: yes, straight from the app

Stories: not in the app, use Meta Business Suite

Collab posts, product tags, sponsored posts, fundraisers: publish right away

Common mistakes

Three reasons the schedule option is not there

When people cannot find the option, it is usually one of three things. A private account cannot schedule at all: Instagram requires a public account. A date more than 30 days out does not fit the app's window, however many older guides promise 75 days. And a post with a collaborator, product tag, sponsored label or fundraiser cannot be scheduled, so remove that feature or publish the post right away. Check these before you assume your app is missing the feature.

Private account: switch to public to schedule in the app

Too far ahead: the app schedules up to 30 days out, not 75

Collaborators or product tags: not compatible with scheduling

1

Create the post or Reel

Tap Create in the top left, or swipe right anywhere in your feed, then tap Post or Reel. Select your photos or video and tap Next.
2

Write the caption and finish the edit

Add your caption, hashtags, effects or filters as you normally would. What you set here is exactly what publishes at the scheduled time.
3

Turn on Schedule this post

Tap More options, turn on Schedule this post (or Schedule this reel) and choose the date and time, up to 30 days ahead. Then tap Done, Back and Schedule.
4

Check it in Scheduled content

Open your profile, tap Menu in the top right and choose Scheduled content under Your insights and tools. Tap Options next to the post to edit, reschedule, share it now or delete it.

Instagram scheduling FAQ

Quick answers on account types, limits, Stories, computers and third-party tools.

Can you schedule posts on Instagram?

Yes. Any public Instagram account can schedule photos, carousels and Reels from the app, up to 30 days ahead. Tap More options before sharing and turn on Schedule this post. Meta Business Suite and third-party schedulers are the other two routes.

Do I need a business account to schedule Instagram posts?

Not in the app. Instagram's Help Center now says you need a public account, whether personal, creator or business. Third-party schedulers are different: Instagram's API only publishes to Business and Creator accounts, so switch to a professional account to use one.

How far in advance can I schedule an Instagram post?

Up to 30 days in the Instagram app, according to Instagram's Help Center in September 2026. The 75-day figure in many guides dates from the 2022 launch. Third-party schedulers keep the post themselves and publish it through the API at the chosen time, so they can plan further ahead.

Can you schedule Instagram Stories?

Not from the Instagram app. Meta Business Suite schedules Stories to Instagram, Facebook or both, from a computer or a phone.

Can I schedule Instagram posts from my computer?

Not on instagram.com: Instagram documents scheduling in the app only. On a computer, use Meta Business Suite, which schedules posts, Reels and Stories for the accounts you manage there, or a web-based scheduler.

How many posts can I schedule on Instagram?

The app lets you schedule up to 25 posts a day. For third-party tools, Instagram's API allows 100 API-published posts per account in a rolling 24 hours, with a carousel counting as one post.

Where do I find my scheduled Instagram posts?

Open your profile, tap Menu in the top right and choose Scheduled content under Your insights and tools. You can also tap Create, pick Post or Reel and tap Scheduled.

Can I edit or reschedule a scheduled post?

Yes. In Scheduled content, tap Options next to the post and choose Edit post, Reschedule, Share now or Delete. Instagram does not list which fields Edit post can change, so to swap the photo or video, delete the post and schedule it again.

Why can't I see the option to schedule?

Check three things: the account must be public, the post must not include a collaborator, product tag, sponsored label or fundraiser, and the app should be up to date. The option sits under More options on the last screen before you share.

Does scheduling hurt reach on Instagram?

No. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a March 2025 Q&A that using scheduled posts does not affect reach one way or the other. Timing still matters, because it decides when your followers first see the post.

Can I schedule a Reel with music?

Instagram's API only publishes a Reel's original audio, so third-party schedulers cannot add tracks from Instagram's music library. If you want a library track, create the Reel in the Instagram app.

Can I schedule an Instagram post to Facebook at the same time?

Meta Business Suite can publish the same post to Instagram and Facebook when the Facebook Page and the Instagram account are connected in the same business portfolio. The Instagram app has its own sharing to Facebook, but Instagram does not say whether it applies to scheduled posts.

Do I need to be online when a scheduled post publishes?

No. The Instagram app, Meta Business Suite and API-based schedulers publish at the scheduled time whether or not your phone is on. Tools that only send you a reminder are different: with those you still publish by hand.

Can I schedule an Instagram Live?

Yes, separately from posts. Tap Create, choose Live, tap Schedule and set a title and start time from one hour to 90 days ahead. Going live needs a public account with at least 1,000 followers.

Can I schedule a first comment on Instagram?

Not in the Instagram app. Some schedulers post a first comment straight after the post goes live. PostNext does this for Instagram: write the comment in the composer and it is added right after the post publishes.

What is the best time to schedule Instagram posts?

When your own followers are most active. On a professional account, Instagram's insights show when they are online. Schedule a little before that peak and compare results over a few weeks, rather than copying a generic best-time chart.

Schedule Instagram further ahead, next to every other channel

PostNext publishes photos, Reels and carousels to Instagram Business and Creator accounts through Instagram's API, with no 30-day limit, an automatic first comment, and one calendar shared with X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and Bluesky. The free plan covers one channel and 10 posts a month.
