What is the PostNext MCP server?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard from Anthropic that lets AI assistants read and write to external tools. The PostNext MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any MCP-aware client a secure, OAuth-authenticated way to manage your social posts in plain language.

Open standard

MCP is the same protocol that connects Claude to your files, GitHub and other tools. Build once, work everywhere.

OAuth-secured

Authorise once and your AI client receives a scoped access token, not your password. Revoke any time.

Drafts only, never auto-publish

The assistant can read your queue, list channels and create or edit drafts. You decide when anything goes out.

How to connect

1

Open Claude or any MCP client

Works with Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, Cursor, MCP Inspector, or anything that speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP.
2

Add the PostNext MCP server

Use https://mcp.postnext.io/api as the server URL. The Connect page configures Claude with one click.
3

Sign in with PostNext

Your client opens an OAuth consent screen. Approve once and you receive a 30-day access token.
4

Talk to your posts

Ask in plain language: "show this week's queue", "draft a Friday recap", "connect my LinkedIn".

What you can do with it

Four named workflows your AI assistant can run from the slash menu, plus everything else through plain language.

/weekly-planPlan a week of posts

Run /weekly-plan in Claude. It reads your brand profile, sees what's already scheduled, proposes 5-10 drafts spread Mon, Fri across your active platforms. Confirms before creating.

/draft-threadDraft a thread from a URL

Run /draft-thread with a topic or article URL. Get a 5-10 post Twitter or Threads thread in your brand voice. Approve before it lands as a draft.

/audit-queueAudit your scheduled queue

Run /audit-queue. Spot duplicate topics, platform overload (>3 posts/day), and posting gaps (>48h) in seconds. Read-only, never mutates.

/channel-sweepSee what channels need attention

Run /channel-sweep. Find missing platforms, stale connections (>7 days unsynced), and where your slot caps stand. Suggestions only, no auth URL fires without confirmation.

Available tools

Twenty tools, four auto-loaded resources, and four named workflows your AI assistant can call. Read-only tools work on every plan; analytics and engagement-weighted recommendations require a paid plan.

Frequently asked questions

What you need to know before connecting.

Which AI clients are supported?

Any client that speaks the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP: Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, Cursor and the MCP Inspector. New clients ship every month and most discover PostNext automatically.

Do I need a paid plan?

No. The free plan gives you read access and draft creation. Only get_account_health (the 30-day analytics summary) requires a paid plan: Basic, Pro, Teams or Business.

Can the assistant publish posts on my behalf?

No. Drafts created via MCP stay as drafts. Publishing requires you to schedule the post yourself in the PostNext app. The AI prepares the content; you decide when it ships.

Is my data secure?

Authentication uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Access tokens are scoped to your team and expire after 30 days of inactivity. Your social credentials are never shared with the AI client.

How do I revoke access?

Disconnect from your AI client's settings, or open your account page on PostNext and remove the client. Tokens also auto-expire after 30 days of inactivity.

What can the assistant actually do?

Read scheduled posts and drafts, list connected channels, see account health (paid), create and edit drafts, and generate authorisation links to connect new platforms.

Does this cost extra?

No. MCP access is included with every PostNext plan. The same paid-plan gating that applies in-app applies to MCP.

Where is the full tool reference?

The /mcp/docs page lists every tool with its inputs, outputs, error codes and examples.
